    Exceptional quality!

I’m a photographer with 55 years experience and this lens is truly impressive. Stopped down to f7-11 gives landscape & architectural photos corner to corner sharpness. Portraits are lovely wide open with pleasing color & tones are very nice. The build is amazing with wonderfully smooth focus damping, likewise with aperture ring. I found no serious issues which could not easily be correct in a good photo editor. The front lens cap is metal and of excellent quality. It screws into the front lens. The rear cap is plastic as with most lenses. Lastly the box the lens comes in is truly impressive and exhibits attention to fine detail in its quality. Very impressive indeed! My $3k Nikon lens came in a cheap cloth pouch inside a styrofoam case. I’m giving it 5 starts for its overall quality, performance, boxing and price point.

    A very nice lens.

I was always intrigued with the Fuji XF16mm f1.4 and the 18mm f1.4. So, now I have the TTArtisan 17mm f1.4. If I want minimum depth of field, I set it to 1.4. Other than that, I use hyper focusing. Slow down, carefully focus and compose and you can get excellent results. On other point. This lens is smaller and lighter than either of the two Fujis.

High quality, fast, compact, manual lens.

I was looking for a manual, compact, fast lens at this focal length for my Z CAM E2 to shoot baseball games. I have electronic focusing lenses, but since my focal distance is the same and stays fixed, the manual focus ring works best. The lens feels and performs great for the price. I made the mistake of purchasing another brand with ‘Artisans’ in the name, which I definitely don’t recommend. I do recommend this TTArtisan 17mm, though.

A very useful lens for a great price

This is a really excellent option for anyone looking for a solid wide-angle lens. It’s not quite up to par with, say, the Sigma 16mm f/1.4… but it’s also not even 1/3rd of the price! And it easily outperforms most vintage wide-angles, which are often also quite a bit more expensive. And, in terms of distortion (or lack thereof) this lens is especially outstanding! It’s not entirely free of barrel distortion, but it is so minimal that I’ve never had the thought of trying to correct and straighten images out – lines stay remarkably straight, and composition with it is a breeze. Otherwise, there is much to recommend this little product on its own: it’s solidly built, it’s very sharp, it’s fast, and has surprisingly short minimum focus distance. It copes well with low light, and can do some very pleasant subject separation and bokeh for such a wide lens. The main compromises to make here are that you will have to step down quite a bit for sharpness at the corners (it’ll be uneven until you go down to about f/5.6), and that contrast does blow out quite easily in bright light, and purple fringing when shooting against a bright background will also be obvious. That said – it handles those issues a bit better than a lot of far pricier vintage lenses, and even some modern ones. I’ve been using this lens as a simple walkaround companion, and have been finding it particularly handy indoors – in tight spaces, the wide angle, fast aperture, and very short minimum distance make it a handy item. It’s fun to use in, say, taking casual pictures at restaurants. On an APS-C sensor, the resulting field of view is pretty close to what you get with a cellphone camera – but obviously this is a much bigger and more light-sensitive lens. Yet it’s still light and compact enough that it’s worth bringing along with you – the pictures really don’t disappoint. Given the price, it’s hard not to recommend it!

My copy not sharp before f4 or 5.6

By Lawrence Rated 2 out of 5 Date: 2021-09-17

While every other review talks about how sharp this lens is, at least in the center at f1.4, the particular copy I have is mush all across the frame up to f4. Needs f5.6 to be what I would call sharp. Using on Panasonic G9 with peaking focus on and trying several times to get it right. (I don’t usually have a problem manually focusing lenses.)

    Incredible lens

By Sean Rated 5 out of 5 Date: 2022-02-04

I am not a professional but this lens gives me the abilities to feel like one. It is my favorite lens in both image quality and flexibility. I can focus close on objects as well as point and shot when stopping down from f/4. The build is robust. It comes with a screw cap, so I suggest a snap cap and a UV filter to complete your purchase.

I still got no amazing result.

I thought it would be great, but i tried last time under the dark, how it works with open aperture for video with my Sony A6400. Hope it will be better. Will give positive review when i have any.
