Samyang AF 24mm f/1.8 Overview

Combining a wide-angle perspective with a fast maximum aperture, this 24mm f/1.8 AF Compact Autofocus Lens from Samyang is designed for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras and provides a 36mm equivalent focal length when used on an APS-C camera body. Two extra-low dispersion elements, three high refractive index elements, and two aspherical elements are incorporated into the lens construction to help to control aberrations and distortions for increased clarity and sharpness. Ultra Multi-Coating has also been applied to all lens elements to reduce lens flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color fidelity. The bright f/1.8 maximum aperture excels in difficult lighting conditions and enables greater control over depth of field and focus placement. The Linear STM autofocus motor provides fast, quiet focus, and the lens barrel incorporates a custom function switch and a focus hold button for optimal focus control. The nine-blade diaphragm to produce a quality of bokeh.

A non-rotating 58mm front filter mount enables the use of polarizing, graduated ND, and other filter types that require precise positioning. I tested the Sony GM and the Sigma. This lens out performed them all in sharpness. I also like the ability to pre focus on infinity for astrophotography.

Good Value Sharp Lens

So far lens is plenty sharp. AF on my a7iii is quick and accurate. Eye detect AF struggles to detect eyes in wide-af mode but it’s a 24mm lens so that is excusable. Eye is sharp when found.

Sharp and light

It’s small, light and sharp for 4k video and gimbal work. The little clam shell case is great too- compact and sturdy. Focus is quite good with a73 and a7s3.

I’m new to astrophotography. I normally do surfing photography and since I’m close to the Space Coast in Florida, I wanted something good to start in astrophotography while saving some money. After a few reviews decided to get it here at which had the best price. I have taken some perfect shot of the stars in night with moonlight which isn’t the best to do this. Don’t hesitate. If is budget and quality, this lens gets you more for less.
