Description
Really Right Stuff BH-25 with Knob Overview
The BH-25 Ball Head with Screw-Knob Clamp from Really Right Stuff is an Arca-compatible, single action tripod head that represents the smallest and lightest ball head offering in the RRS line-up.
Despite the BH-25’s small stature it’s an impressively capable support, able to hold up to 8.8 lb, while standing just 2.6″ tall and weighing a negligible 6.5 oz. The single action design of the head allows the user to unlock the 360 pan and the ball at the same time, facilitating completely free movement in any direction and locking in any position. The T-style lever lock assists the user when locking and unlocking the ball head by providing a large grip for maximum leverage. The T-style handle is also set on a spring loaded ratcheting joint, which allows the user to rotate the handle, freeing it of obstruction caused by large tripod baseplates.
On the technical side, the BH-25 features a few classic additions that make the head almost universally compatible and customizable. The bottom of the head features a standard 3/8″-16 mount for wide compatibility with most tripod legs, while the connecting stem features a standard 1/4″-20 thread that makes swapping quick release clamps as simple as possible. Also, to save weight, the 0.9″ ball uses a hollow design, which maintains strength while adding to the BH-25’s lightweight design.

Really Right Stuff BH-25 with Knob Reviews
a bit raspy; compatibility issues also

This is the second BH-25 ball head I have received from RRS. This one is much smoother than the earlier one (purchased in mid-2022), but both have compatibility issues; i.e., the clamp is detachable but does not mount with other RRS ball heads (e.g., BH-30).
The fact I just reviewed my BH40 is telling

Awful ~ useless. Not made for use with an expensive camera. I replaced this piece of junk with a bh40 and threw out the 25
Small But Mighty

If you are in need of a small lite weight ball head that can support a full size DSLR with a medium sized lens on those remote hikes or excursions where size/weight is the major consideration, look no further than this mighty mouse.
Very steady and compact

This was much smaller than I expected, yet it can comfortably hold my 70-200 and A7iii. I think it would hold a heavier DSLR and 70-200 as well with no shift when locked down. I was disappointed that it didn’t come with a quick release plate and had to purchase one separately. Even $40 ballheads come with a quick-release
Quality very good but product is small.

For the money it’s a great product. I planned on using it on my full size manfrotto tripod. It is not a good fit. The diameter of the body is small and the tripod locking screws for the head are useless. I plan on soon buying a travel tripod and will use this ball head on the smaller tripod otherwise I would surely return it.
the usual high quality gear from Really Right Stuff

Nice as expected
Super strong

I bought this to save weight while backpacking. When I opened the box, I had concerns because it was really small. Added a camera and lens combo that was 4.5 lbs and it held the camera in every challenging angle I could think of. I will be backpacking with a camera and lens that is 2lbs or less so this will work very well for me. It is nice to know it can support more weight.
Ball stiff

I needed a very small tripod head for a very small tripod I had. When this BH-25 arrived it has all the appearance of the two BH-55’s and the MH-010 I have. When attached very easily to the tripod, and went through the process of making fine adjustments I found the ball was not performing as the BH-55. When adjusting the position of the camera, Canon 5D IV with 15 mm fish-eye lens, I could not just loosen the adjusting knob and allow the ball to move smoothly to the desired position. I had to loosen the knob well past smooth movement to complete loss of friction requiring me to totally support the camera prior to loosening so it would not fall over. I have never had this lack of control with any of the other RRS heads. Quite disappointing. Would the BH-30 be better? Or would I have to get a BH40 or BH-55 to have the same performance I have had. I attributed this unfortunate condition to the significant reduced size of the BH-25 ball and take that into consideration when making any adjustments.
