B&H has put together the Manfrotto 494 RC2 Mini Ball Head with Quick Release and QR Plate to give photographers a lightweight solution for hiking or location work. The kit is comprised of the 494 RC2 Mini Ball Head and a dedicated quick release plate.

The 494 RC2 is a lightweight aluminum support that’s ideal for travel or nature work with cameras weighing up to 8.8 lb. Among its benefits are 360 degree panning and +/-90 head tilting for easy vertical compositions. The head also has friction or tension control of the ball’s movement to allow fine positioning adjustments without inadvertently letting the camera flop. The ball head is paired with a dedicated 200PL quick release plate which has a rubber-coated base and comes with a 3/8-16 to 1/4″-20 bushing.

  The Manfrotto 494 Mini Ball Head w/RC2 QR Plate is a lightweight ball head that’s perfect for smaller cameras (maximum load–8.82 lb). It’s got aquick-release plate, a newly designed friction control knob that allows micro movements without engaging the head-locking mechanism, and a locking mechanism that will lock the head in both the +90/-90 tilt position and the 360 panning position.

  Users should note that the single-lock design of the 494 releases both the 360 pan and the ball at the exact same time. This design allows for free, fluid movement but does not allow for 360 panning while the ball is set in a fixed position.

  The Manfrotto 200PL Quick Release Plate with 1/4″-20 Screw and 3/8″ Bushing Adapter is the replacement quick release plate for all heads that use the RC2 (3157N) system. The plate comes with a 1/4″-20 camera screw and a 3/8″ bushing adapter, and is compatible with 35mm and standard thread-mounted medium format cameras.
