The 492 Micro Ball Head from Manfrotto is a 2.6″ tall, aluminum support with a load capacity of 8.8 lb. The head has a single ergonomic locking knob that controls the ball and pan movements at the same time. The 4.9 oz head has a cut notch on the side that allows you to position the camera at a 90 angle, and the camera attaches to head via its 1/4″-20 mounting thread.

Perfect Small Ball Head

I needed a strong and small ball head for random gear I wanted to mount on light stands. These are a tad pricey (minus one star) but you can feel the superior build quality. Locking and other functions work great.

PLEASE. Bring back the old elegant, simple version! I use this (the old one) ALL THE TIME for both light and heavy equipment. Manfrotto makes great equipment–solid. But really. Who designed this?
Great Option for Small Ball Head

If you’re looking for a small but quality ball head with a good weight rating, this is the one. Great feel and hold, typical Manfrotto quality. One star off for price. Seems a bit steep but wont really complain since I trust this to hold my camera on top of a light stand.
