Description
New Yorkbased artist Anne Collier (b. 1970) creates seemingly straightforward images of pop-cultural objects that address both the practice and history of photography while simultaneously critiquing clichs and uncovering hidden truths. This volume, part of the MCA Monograph series, accompanies the first major solo, US exhibition of Colliers work. Michael Darling, James W. Alsdorf Chief Curator at the MCA, surveys Colliers photographs of the past decade to analyze their artistic influences and thematic connections; Chrissie Iles, Anne and Joel Ehrenkranz Curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art, examines the artists position within photographic and cinematic history; and novelist Kate Zambreno delves into identity and self-portraiture, collection, and obsession.
