Opteka 650-1300mm f/8-16 Overview

Designed for photographing distant subjects, the black 650-1300mm f/8-16 Preset Telephoto Zoom Lens from Opteka is a super tele zoom featuring a threaded T mount for adapting to a wide variety of camera types. Its optical design is fully multi-coated, and a lens hood is incorporated into the design, to suppress lens flare, ghosting, and surface reflections for increased contrast and color neutrality when working in strong lighting conditions. Manual focus operation is possible and a built-in rotating tripod mount enables sturdy mounting of the lens to a tripod or monopod as well as seamless switching between shooting orientations. A soft lens pouch with a shoulder strap is included with the lens to protect it during storage or travel.

This lens is compatible with full-frame and smaller-sized sensors and features a threaded T-mount, which is compatible with a variety of optional adapters for mounting to various camera mounts. Multi-coated optics and lens hood help to reduce lens flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color fidelity. Built-in rotating tripod mount for simple attachment of this lens on a tripod or monopod, and the rotating design permits quickly changing from vertical to horizontal shooting orientations. Worth for money

Its hard to manage image shaking and too heavy.

I use this lense on a Canon M50 ad a Nikon D3200. I have NO complaints as to its image quality. I do find the focus ring a bit stiff making it harder to control. I have used a 2x adaptor for added magnification and find the image quilate to less a bit but not to objectionable. Its seams a fine lense at the price range.

Great lens for what it is intended for. Tripod is a must. I’ve used both Tripod and monopod at the same time to get some great shots.

Super Telephoto Super Waste

This Lens is a waste of Money, waste of Space, and Waste of Time. The push-pull lens in very difficult and awkward to use. I can see things through it clearly and sharp, but I can barely reach the adjustment ring. Once I take the photo and upload it on to my computer, it is solid black. No photos. Worth the price? Absolutely not. It may be hundreds or even thousands of dollars under the prices of others, but not worth $200 tax. The Zipper on the Cover Bag snapped into with no effort. I wish I had spent the money on a different lens. It is absolutely not worth the price.

Sweet high-powered telephoto for the money. Not professional quality, but quite good for the price point. T Mount means you just use the right adapter to put on nearly any SLR out there. I just wonder what Im supposed to do with the Canon EOS adapter included when Im a Nikon fan. I already have a Nikon F Mount adapter for T Mount.

At $199.00 it is a lot of fun and worth the $$. You will probably not win a lot of photo contests with it but the pics are not too bad. I also have an 800mm mirror lens which is difficult to focus. This doesn’t have the same problem. At 1300mm the focus ring is a long way from the camera body and it needs to be on a tripod. I am happy with it.

A very good telephoto

I have had this lens for at least 3 years now however I only recently started using it on an almost daily basis. My thing is bird photography of which appx 95% is done from my sun space on the rear of my house overlooking my bird feeders. I am stunned at the quality of the pictures that it produces. I also have a $900 Tamron 150 – 600 mm and for what I do, I think this lens stacks up very well against the Tamron. If you know your way around the manual settings on your camera, this is a great addition.
