Designed for close distances, the 40mm f/2.8 Macro from TTArtisan is a 60mm-equivalent macro prime offering a 1:1 life-size maximum magnification along with a 6.7″ minimum focusing distance. Benefitting both close-up shooting as well as working at greater distances, the optical design uses 8 elements in 7 groups to maintain consistent image quality and sharpness throughout the focusing range. The 40mm f/2.8 has a manual focus design and an 11-blade diaphragm that contributes to a smooth bokeh quality, making it an excellent portrait lens.
Ideal for macro shooting, this lens offers a life-size 1:1 maximum magnification along with a minimum focusing distance of 6.7″ to suit working with close-up subjects. Eleven-blade diaphragm and bright f/2.8 maximum aperture help to render smooth and pleasing bokeh to benefit shallow depth of field imagery. You Get What You Pay For
By Earl Rated 3 out of 5 Date: 2022-02-17
First the positives. Tor $100, this is a really great deal. Machining seems superb, the metal lens cap is a nice touch, and it is easy to operate. Image is sharp when properly focussed. I bought to obtain a magnification analogous to the naked eye, and it works well in this role and is possibly the only lens for 4:3 micro cameras that achieves this. Now for the negatives. Being fully manual, it doesn’t interface with any of my Olympus OM-D’s automatic functions. Focussing in the field without a tripod is difficult as it is necessary to focus while stopped-down, rather than with the lens wide open, meaning that placing the critical focus is impossible apart from counting on the distance scale on the barrel. Consequently, out of focus photos occasionally result. Another problem has to do with the color balance. With the Olympus OM-D, it is necessary to remove the auto-WB setting and set the camera to what the lighting condition is (sunny daylight, cloudy, incandescent, florescent, etc.). This brings things close, but the end results are off a little, meaning that they need to be tweaked in Photoshop as to saturation and color balance. But again, for $100 out of the box, it’s pretty okay for what you pay for.

Astonishing lens, all metal and glass, no plastic. The image quality is absolutely fantastic compared with the price.

Images look fine…I got rid of the vignetting by setting the S1H sensor to record 1:1 Too bad it did not come with a hood! Would have given it 5 stars.
Fantastic Lens, especially for the money!

This lens far exceeded my expectations. Using it on my new Olympus OM-D E-M10 mkIV. Does exactly what I needed it to do and for the price, you can’t beat it.
