Kirk LP-72SG Overview
The LP-72SG Replacement Lens Footwith Sure Grip Coating for Nikon Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S, Nikon Z 400mm f/2.8 TC VR S, and Nikon Z 600mm f/4 TC VR S Lenses from Kirk is a replacement Arca-type lens foot that attaches directly onto the lens collar using the included steel hex screws. The lens foot is compatible with most Arca-type clamps and heads, and the double-dovetail design allows other Arca-type accessories to attach to the bottom or the top of the foot. The foot allows the lens hood to mount in the reverse without bumping into it, for easy storage. The 6061-T6 aluminum foot has a black anodized finish to resist scratches and corrosion and has a contour handle featuring a textured Sure Grip Coating for comfortable and secure handling. In addition, safety stop screws located on the bottom of the foot prevent the lens from accidentally releasing when the quick release clamp is partially opened.

Not very happy with it

The lens foot is light and well made. All Kirk products are. But the sure grip is not what I thought it would be. It’s not soft and cushioned to the touch like the original Nikon lens foot, rather it’s an abrasive metal finish. If you rub it with your fingers, some small metal particles/ dust keeps coming off. I wish I could’ve gone for the smooth finish handle instead. I don’t have the time/patience to return the product and order a new one since I’m living half a world away from USA.

This lens foot for the Nikkor 800mm f6.3 fits perfectly and is exceedingly rigid. It is great to have Arca Swiss dovetails machined directly into the foot and not have to screw a plate on. It is also very useful to have a QD socket built into the foot so I can sling it from my Black Rapid shoulder harness whilst being able to remove it quickly when I need.
