Really Right Stuff BQDS Overview

The BQDS Bi-Directional Plate from Really Right Stuff mounts to the bottom of a camera via the 1/4″-20 male screw and gives the camera a quick release function. The plate is compatible with any Really Right Stuff and most Arca-type clamps or ball heads.

The bi-directional dovetail design allows the plate to mount in any direction on the ball head or clamp. On the bottom of the screw, there is a Quick-Detach (QD) socket. Therefore, the plate allows a QD Strap Swivel to attach to the 1/4″-20 screw. Since all sides of the plate are equal, it permits the anti-twist flange to mount towards the front or the back of the camera, and the anti-twist flange helps prevent any movement between the camera and the plate.

The CNC machined 6061-T6 aluminum plate has an anodized Type II black finish, and an index mark is found on the side of the plate, which helps to center the camera on a ball head or clamp.

As always with Really Right Stuff, this bi-directional plate is nicely made, sturdy, and secure. The result, when paired with a Magpul MS4 strap, is a quick, safe, and secure method to connect and disconnect my heavy SLR.

Can convert a 1/4 hole to Arca Swiss + QD. However there won’t be 1/4 hole anymore. Will be 5 stars if the 1/4 hole can be retained somehow.

good for use on any old camera

I have a couple of these and they work great on old medium format folders, AS LONG AS you cut a piece of rubber to cushion this and keep it from sliding around. Have the quick detachable strap lug that goes into this works great too. Very secure!!!

It’s too deep for the front to hug Hasselblad 907X (and therefore cannot automatically ensure perfect angle fit). Otherwise great. I still use it on my 907X despite this given no better alternative I’m aware of especially with Quick-Detach Strap Swivel.

Works Fine but Overpriced

This plate works in conjunction with the Magpul MS4 quick detach strap. While this plate does exactly what its supposed to do its really hard to justify the price for what you get.

Sturdy and well made

I wasn’t entirely sure about this purchase when I made it, but I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived. It’s machined metal and is deceptively heavy for its size. It was a toss up between the item with a QD socket, or a small arca clamp, in order to speed up taking my camera on and off my shoulder strap. I also purchased the RRS QD swivel to use with this, and it is equally well made. The two items work perfectly and are exactly what I was looking for – a faster way to swap between my shoulder strap and tripod without having to screw or unscrew something from the base of my camera.

Perfect fit for the Nikon FTZ adapter.

This bi-directional plate works very well with the Nikon FTZ adapter when mounted in reverse. No clearance problems on my Nikon Z6II with the RRS L-plate attached. The QD socket is a nice addition too. Recommended!

Perfect Plate For QD

You get what you pay for and I’d rather protect my expensive gear with a quality plate rather than some cheap knock off sold at a popular online shopping site. This plate works perfectly with my RRS QD Strap Swivel connector.
